Saka Dawa (also known as Saga Dawa) (ས་ག་ཟླ་བ།) represents the holiest and most sacred days in Tibetan Buddhism. Falling on the fourth month of the Tibetan Calendar, it is believed to be associated with three major events in the life of Shakyamuni Buddha – his birth anniversary on the seventh day of the month, both his enlightenment and his parinirvana on the full moon night. The blessing of this meritorious month is immeasurable, but blessing any merit accumulated on the full moon day is unparalleled. Thus, Simdha Getul Rinpoche and his entourage carried on their pilgrimage from the holy boudhanath to the most precious mahabodhi temple, bodhgaya. There on the auspicious full day of saka dawa, he did the flower offering to the entire temple and on the new moon of the same month, he did the offering of gold to the buddha statue of the mahabodhi temple, bodhgaya. This meritorious month carries a special aspect whereby any good deeds performed during the month are rewarded with one hundred million times greater good karma.

As the result of offering flowers, one will enjoy an abundance of wealth, an attractive body, fame, victory over foes, and glory. Quoting Puṣpakuṭa-dhāraṇī, Śikṣāsamuccaya says, "The merit of tossing a single flower into the sky and thinking (of it as an offering to) the Buddha is greater than making offerings of celestial food and clothing to as many Pratyeka-buddhas as there are particles of dust on the earth."

This merit of offering the flower and gold to the mahabodhi temple, bodhgaya; we would like to dedicate to all mother sentient beings and especially to all our benefactors.

By this merit may all attain omniscience.

May it defeat the enemy, wrongdoing.

From the stormy waves of birth, old age, sickness and death;

From the ocean of samsara, may I free all beings!

By this virtue may we quickly

Attain the state of Guru Buddha, and then

Lead every being without exception

To that very state!
